Welcome to Estonia ~ Where History and Culture Collide with Total Relaxation

Estonia is a North-European country located along the south-eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. Its capital, Tallinn, lies about 80 km south of Helsinki across the Gulf of Finland. Estonia is the smallest of the Baltic states-slightly larger than Switzerland or Denmark. It borders Russia in the east, with St. Petersburg just across the north-eastern border and Latvia in the south.

The population of Estonia is a bit over a million, the majority of the population are Estonians and Russians. Approximately a third of the inhabitants live in Tallinn. The capital of the Estonian Republic is one of the oldest capital cities in Northern Europe. It is one of the best retained medieval European towns, especially the Old Town with its unique medieval surroundings.

The unique value of Tallinn's Old Town lies first and foremost in the well-preserved completeness of its medieval milieu and structure, which has been lost in most of the capitals of Northern Europe. Since 1997, Tallinn is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.Apart from the Old Town, Estonia also boasts beautiful and immediate scenery. Our summers, although sometimes a bit rainy, are just lovely and the snowy winters make this little country seem like a fairytale land. Welcome to Estonia!

Spa Tourism

Estonia is an active spa tourism country, whose inhabitants know how to appreciate spa tourism. Spa tourists who come to Estonia originate mainly from Europe, but there is also a growing number of Americans and Asians coming to the country. Estonian spa tourism was basically founded when Finnish ex-servicemen were granted rehabilitation procedures by the state. These procedures were carried out in Estonia because of lower prices and, as an added bonus, a trip to a foreign country.During the last decade a great deal has been contributed to spa development. This is the reason why there are so many unique spa complexes in Estonia that concentrate on innovative treatment procedures as well as on traditional relaxation and recreation programs.

Many spas are located amidst nature or near beaches and they are often surrounded by exercise tracks where it is possible to go for a jog or skiing. Every spa tourist can find something that suits him-the choice is varied and interesting.Saunas have traditionally held a central role in the Estonian culture. Generally, a variety of sauna options are represented in spas. For Estonians the most congenial type of sauna is the Finnish sauna, which is characterized by its simplicity and a thousand years of tradition. A Finnish sauna is heated until the temperature reaches 65°-95°C. It is hotter on upper benches than on lower ones, which makes it possible to choose between different temperatures. A Finnish sauna is designed for a lengthy relaxation.

Medical Tourism in Estonia

The quality of health services in Estonia is very high. According to a poll carried out in collaboration with the European Commission and a Swedish organization called Health Consumer Powerhouse in 2008, Estonia ranked 11th in the hierarchy of the most patient-friendly health systems in Europe. In terms of prices and quality, Estonia was the best.Medical tourism in Estonia has increased in recent years. In addition to cosmetic surgery, more and more bariatric surgeries are being carried out. Dentistry and laser eye surgeries have become more popular as well.

The cost of medical services is low (up to 80% lower than in other countries) and that makes Estonia an attractive country of destination for medical tourism. However, the country's potential has not been fully discovered yet. There are several undertakings that are focused on different medical areas. Until now, organizations have been concentrating mainly on offering medical services rather than collaborating with spas and general tourism programs. This has changed over recent years-now offering additional possibilities has become a part of medical services. Estonia too has taken this path along with the rest of the world.
