Spas have become very common retreats for those seeking physical as well as mental relaxation these days. However, a lot of individuals refrain from visiting spas because of the confusion created by the concept of nudity in these areas. Some wonder whether they would have to disrobe entirely for a spa treatment while others are apprehensive of somebody of the opposite sex seeing their body in the nude.
Spa Nudity is widely misinterpreted
A general notion is that every spa would require its visitors to remove their clothes for massages and other body treatments. The truth however, is that only the particular part of the body that is worked on will be revealed while the rest of the body would be covered by a towel or a large sheet.A lot of concern also arises in the minds of spa goers as to how their bodies would be perceived by the massage therapists. There is no need to worry here as well because spas employ only experienced massage therapists who are more interested in the muscle tissues inside your body rather than the assets outside.
Variations according to country or region
While many countries have restrictions on spa nudity, other places like Europe are more relaxed towards the same. It is not uncommon to find groups of travellers enjoying a steam bath in a mineral spring, completely nude and unmindful of the others around them. Some mineral springs in the U.S. also have a relaxed attitude towards spa nudity while the same cannot be expected inside the treatment room.
Nudity in a Typical Spa
So what exactly happens when you enter a spa for treatment? You would first be asked to change into a robe and slippers in the locker (separate for men and women), dressing or treatment room. The steams and sauna rooms in a spa would have individuals of the same gender sharing a room. In most cases, you can walk in with a towel wrapped around your body or opt to wear swimming trunks/ a swimsuit. If you are uncomfortable about being completely nude, you can always opt to wear underwear or disposable panties that the spa offers you. However, this may affect the efficiency of the treatment, especially if the hips are concerned.
Treatments to avoid if you are apprehensive about nudity
There are a large number of spa treatments that don't actually require you to remove all your clothing, including facials, manicures, pedicures and reflexology. The treatments you would need to avoid if you don't prefer nudity are the Thai massage, salt glow, Vichy shower, hydrotherapy or a full body treatment.
