While most of us would love to visit a spa for a pedicure, the costs involved would tend to make us step back. Not to worry though, for there are plenty of ways in which you can opt for a spa pedicure in your own home. Here are some DIY tips that would help you get salon style feet without leaving your home, and without spending too much money in the process.
Things you will need
Before starting the pedicure, keep the essential items you would need close by. This would prevent you from having to get up and move around with wet feet. The essential items you would need for a spa pedicure include toenail clippers, file, nail polish remover, moisturizer, cotton pads, pumice stone, nail polish of preferred colour and an exfoliating foot scrub.
What you need to do
Start the pedicure by carefully removing the old nail polish from your nails using the remover. Use a clipper to trim your nails properly. The best practice in this case would be to cut the nails straight across and then use a glass file to smooth the edges. Smooth the nails until you get a curved, almost round shape. This would help prevent ingrown toe nails.Fill a tub with warm-hot water and add some soap solution to it. Along with that, add a teaspoon each of tea tree oil and witch hazel. Follow it up with 2-3 drops of peppermint/rosemary oil and about half a cup of aromatic salts. Stir the water nicely and then soak your feet in it for ten minutes or so.Scrub your feet gently with the pumice stone to remove calluses and dead skin. Start at the heel and move up to the toes slowly. Rinse off your feet with warm water and dry it with a soft towel.Apply a good quality moisturizing cream over your feet. Massage the feet gently as you do so in order to improve blood circulation in the area.Apply a cuticle cream on the cuticles to moisturize them. Using a cuticle pusher, gently nudge the cuticles back. Using a cotton ball, wipe the nails with a nail polish remover again to remove any residual nail polish.Start applying nail polish by applying the base coat and a primer first. Apply the nail polish only after the base coat has dried up nicely. Opt for two thin coats of the same and wait for it to dry. Not apply a top coat and wait for a few days. Follow it up with one more top coat to increase the shine.
